Return TIF Surplus‏

Filed under: General and Misc — grace at 10:12 pm on Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Hello Drummond,

As some of you know, I have been working with the Raise Your Hand Coalition http://www.ilraiseyourhand.org/ since April, the goal of our group to find long-term solutions to funding of our public schools.  You may have heard that class size across CPS is going to remain the same, which is great, but there are still a lot of program cuts – in special ed, transportation, after-school programs, etc. Currently, there is about $700 million in something called TIF accounts in the city, and at the end of each year the city is supposed to return the surplus to CPS and other taxing bodies. Somehow, they haven’t been doing this, and this year we are asking the mayor and our alderman to return this TIF surplus so that CPS could get roughly $350 million back.

Please take 30 seconds to use this site – very similar to noto37 and please pass this link on to all your contacts who support public education. Thank you!

Snack Sale Fridays Returns Tomorrow! Free Books!

Filed under: General and Misc — ssscoleman at 6:15 pm on Thursday, August 19, 2010

Yes, it is still warm and school has started.  Come by the front of the school at 2:45 to purchase an ice cream.   There will be a variety of flavors.  Everything is only $1.00 and the proceeds benefit the After School Mentor Program.  I have inherrited many kids gently used books about government, sports and the presidents as well as titles from the author Gary Paulsen.  I have numerous copies of “The Giver.”  Please stop by and pick up a book or two and enjoy and ice cream!
