Registration Tonight at 7:30–826CHI

Filed under: General and Misc — zbluesun at 6:52 pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Set your smart phone alarms or grab an old school #2 pencil and the back of a receipt.   You won’t want to miss this one.   826CHI Free November/December Workshops are open for registration tonight at 7:30.  And they fill fast.

You can check out the fabulously creative descriptions now, and get those typing fingers limbered up for tonight.   Workshops are for kids ages 6-18 and are broken down by age groups.   See what’s new here!

ChiIL Teacher:  If you happen to have a 2nd or 3rd grader, I’m teaching two 826CHI workshops and would love to see you there.   In November, join ChiIL Mama for The Lost Sock, and in December, you can sign up for The Sun Box.

The Lost Sock
One Session: Friday, November 13th
Time: 4–5:30PM
Taught by Bonnie Kenaz-Mara
Limited to 12 students in grades 2–3
Is your dryer a portal to another dimension? In our house, every load of laundry comes out with missing socks. Where do all those mismatched socks go? Today, the ones who got left behind can go to a fun, funky writing workshop and star in their own stories. With a little help from kids in the 2nd and 3rd grades, these socks will become colorful new bookmarks to take home. They will also spark a whole collection of lost sock letters, documenting the adventures of their missing twins. Bring in your mismatched socks and we’ll have a rockin’, sockin’ good time.
Will open for registration on 10/27 at 7:30pm.
The Sun Box: Winter Solstice Myths and Traditions from Ancient Times to the Present
One Session: Friday, December 11th
Time: 4–5:30PM
Taught by Bonnie Kenaz-Mara
Limited to 12 students in grades 2–3
Winter Solstice is coming, Monday, December 21st, in the northern hemisphere, this year. People have been fascinated with the sun for centuries, and have made up lots of interesting Solstice stories, to explain and celebrate the shortest day of the year. In The Sun Box Workshop, we’ll explore these myths and traditions with two yellow sun boxes, full of stories and props, for the kids to pick out.

Will open for registration on 10/27 at 7:30pm.

Folks:

According to the reports below, Drummond’s outside air quality is one of the worst around. The EPA has just sampled at nearby St. Josephat school for air toxics. Please come to the health/environment committee meeting tomorrow (Thursday) October 22nd at 7:00pm at Cafe DeLuca, 1721 N. Damen, to see if we can do anything about it.  Here’s info about Drummond’s air quality:

When:  Wed.  Oct. 21, 1:00-3:00 (if you can stay later great! Kristine Grieber will be there ’til 3:00 to get you started!)

Thurs. Oct. 22, 2:00-4:00 (again if you can stay later or come early great, just see Kirstine Grieber or Sherry Coleman for a little direction)

Upcoming garden help will be needed.  Thanks!

The Drummond Afterschool Committee would like to thank the Drummond Community for their generous contributions as well as attendance at the After School Committee Fundraiser this past August.  In particular, we owe a debt of gratitude to Mark and Jessica  Kwiatkowski for hosting the event at The Coach House (950 W Wolfram), and to Carlos and Margaret Reyna for providing the delicious food from Maiz restaurant (1041 N California).  We encourage each of you to frequent these establishments to show our appreciation.

The event itself was a great success and it’s all because of YOU! We cleared over $1,250.00, which will be put to good use supporting Drummond’s after school programming.  Thank you all so much! If you have any suggestions or thoughts for future after school programming or you would like to get involved with the Committee, please email us at .
