YMCA Intersession Child Care

Filed under: General and Misc — monicaa at 11:45 am on Saturday, September 19, 2009

Since this is a new program I think parents would really like to have an idea how many Drummond students will be attending and maybe connect with fellow parents who are attending or considering the YMCA as a possibilty. Feel free to email me at . I visited the Y and spoke with Rosa Nodal the other day and she mentioned that some parents were asking who else was going but she could not give out that info. I’d be happy to make a contact list and circulate it among the parents. Thanks and get in touch. Break starts soon. Monica

POTS AND STRAINERS

Filed under: General and Misc — Monica at 9:07 am on Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Our Pasta Palooza cooking team could use some additional extra-large pots (the very largest you have — “industrial” size if possible!) and super large colanders/strainers (for straining the pasta).  If you have any to lend us, please bring them to the School this afternoon or tomorrow morning – - just mark the box or bag “Pasta Palooza” and bring them to the 1st floor kitchen.  (Then stop by at the end of the night to pick them up again.)

Let us know if you can help!

Thanks and apologies for the multiple emails…

Budget and Fundraising Update and Meeting

Filed under: General and Misc — Jonathan Goldman at 7:58 am on Wednesday, September 16, 2009

I’m very pleased to report that the final accounting for Luau 2009 has been completed, and the event raised $58,000 for Drummond!! This nearly doubled the amount raised at our last event, Tango for Drummond in 2007.

The total income for the event was $74,000, including about $23,000 from family sponsorships, $10,000 from corporate sponsorships, and $20,000 from the silent auction.

Our many thanks again to the Luau Steering Committee (Co-Chairs Jane Boal Walther and Maria Sotelo, and Angelo Artemakis, Pamela Anderson, Nicole Hasan, Aimee Kam, Grace Kwon, Sarah Landicho, Kyle Petersen, and Kelli Rick) and to the dozens of people who worked on committees and volunteered at the event.

Now comes the fun part – spending the money for our school. Last year the LSC approved the following purposes for the event proceeds: Teacher Assistant positions, upgrading teacher and student computers, and purchasing books for curricular instruction.

The Budget and Fundraising Committee will meet on Friday September 18th at 7:30 am in room 007 to discuss specifically how to allocate the money, as well as to hold a broader discussion about overall budget priorities for 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.

Please join us for this important meeting!

Best,

Jonathan Goldman
LSC Chair

Family Diversity Art Projects – deadline extended!

Filed under: General and Misc — Sabrina Craig at 10:02 pm on Monday, September 14, 2009

If your family is still working on your Family Diversity Art Project, keep working! The deadline to turn them in to the school office has been extended to this Weds, Sept 16.

If you didn’t get the flyer, the Diversity and Outreach Committee is inviting each Drummond family to submit a work of art to honor your family’s uniqueness and to recognize the tremendous diversity among school families. The projects will be displayed in the Gallery during Pasta Palooza. This special art installation is designed to build awareness of the many cultures and backgrounds represented at Drummond, and to recognize and celebrate our differences.

To participate, answer the following questions with a poem, pictures, music lyrics, etc that your family creates together. Use a standard size sheet of paper.

1. How is my family unique?

2. What celebration is recognized by my family that is not universally recognized by everyone in this country?

The Diversity and Outreach Committee thanks everyone for their participation, and looks forward to seeing your art projects!
