Office Depot 5% Back to Drummond

Filed under: General and Misc — Angelo at 4:51 pm on Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Passing along some information courtesy of Amy Y.

Thought it would be great to forward this to parents who have also waited until the last minute to pick up school supplies… Just print and use the attached cards (I’ve already filled them out with the name/account number that Office Depot has on file for us) and 5% credit goes back to Drummond.

Every bit counts right? Spread the word!

Uniform Swap Drop Reminder

Filed under: General and Misc — zbluesun at 2:11 pm on Monday, August 10, 2009

There will be a cardboard drop box next to the EL1 exit on the East side of the school today (Monday) through Friday at pick up time.   Please bring any school clothing your child has outgrown to the drop box.  Anything navy or white and school spirit shirts welcome.
There will be a sheet where you can log in the number of items you bring.  Next week, you can swap/trade up sizes for an equal number of items.  Please note–this week is for drop off only.   The actual resale and trade tables will be up after school next week.   Donations will still be accepted throughout the sale, but early drop off is appreciated.

We also need volunteers to work the Uniform Trade up from 2:15-3:15 Monday (sale for those who donated only–basement lunch room) and Tuesday 2:30-3:15– even trade or $4 suggested donation that goes to the PTO for school events (outside-weather

permitting).   We also need a couple volunteers to work Wednesday night from 6-7, to give day job working parents a chance to participate.
Anything left Thursday or Friday will be placed outside on the swing side and will be available for free. Anything left after that will be donated.
Please private e-mail me with any questions or to volunteer to sort clothing and run the swap.

Thanks,

Bonnie Kenaz-Mara

Attention Room Reps (last year’s and potential future reps)

Filed under: General and Misc — zbluesun at 12:40 pm on Monday, August 3, 2009

This letter has been sent to the list of room reps from last year, but I am also posting it here, so we don’t inadvertantly miss anyone.

Thank you,

B
Attention Room Reps–

I hope you have all had a wonderful summer break.   It’s hard to believe our new school year is rapidly approaching.  In the past, we have tried to keep one old/ one new room rep wherever possible, to ease the transition and to provide maximum help to teachers in the first few weeks of school, when they may need a lot of assistance.

If you are a returning rep, make sure you have first confirmed your room with me.   If I don’t hear from you, a new parent will be assigned.   After you have heard back from me, verifying your room, please talk to your teacher and make sure she/he has your contact information.

Ask how you may help with collecting and organizing supplies, setting up the classroom, or assisting the new students.   Please remember that parents are not encouraged to be in Montessori classrooms working with the students.   Let your teacher take the lead in telling you what needs to be done.   It will likely be behind the scenes grunt work.

Please e-mail me ASAP at if you are interested in staying on as room rep and your child is in the same room.   I also need your name, child’s name, grade and room number, e-mail and phone to confirm that I have all your correct info.   It would also be helpful to hear from you if you are not able to be a room rep or if your child is moving up and you are interested in being a rep again for the new room.   It’s a lot for me to keep track of all the classrooms, kid transfers and reps and I don’t want to inadvertently miss anyone.

Also, please note that all room reps are expected to attend PTO meetings.  You can alternate every other one with your co-room rep.   But there were a number of you last year who did not come to many or any PTO meetings after the initial fall ones.

We also had many wonderful room parents who planned events and activities, assisted with class laundry and grunt work and helped as needed.   But, we had a hand full who were overcommitment and did nothing.   Please note, if you can not make it  to PTO meetings at least every other month and make time for meeting/communicating with your classroom teacher monthly, do not volunteer again.

New room reps will not be assigned till all interested parents have applied and then we’ll draw names, so it will probably be September.   I’ll try to expedite the process, but it’s not possible to do this before school starts, because classroom assignments aren’t solidified.   Last year we had a complete lack of volunteers for the upper grades 4-8th and surpluss of early childhood, so spread the word and drum up volunteers for the older classrooms or we’ll need to double up again this year.

Also, Grace Kwon and Pam Anderson are heading the PTO this year.   They have asked that everyone sign in to the new database by August 30th.   All our room parent communications and volunteer opportunities will come through this database, so please add your information ASAP.   Information on how to do that is below.

Finally, I’m trying to bump up our annual Uniform Trade Up as early in the new year as possible, since that’s when everyone is buying clothing for the year.   Our uniform swap collection will take place again the first week of school and the trade up itself will be the second week of school.   If you can volunteer for a shift the 2nd week of school, please e-mail me.   We need several extra people from 2:15-3:15 Monday (sale for those who donated only–basement lunch room) and Tuesday 2:30-3:15 and Wednesday for working parents 6-7pm.  Tuesday and Wednesday are even trade or $4 suggested donation per item, that goes to the PTO for school events (outside-weather permitting).    Anything left Thursday or Friday will be placed outside on the swing side and will be available for free.   Anything left after that will be donated.

Thanks,
Bonnie Kenaz-Mara
