Room Rep Position Vacancies

Filed under: General and Misc — zbluesun at 12:55 pm on Monday, August 31, 2009

We are still in need of parents to volunteer as Room Reps for the following classrooms:

104 Ms. Zehren with Room Rep Cincy Nicita

206 Miss Lisa with Room Rep Monica Lasky

300  Ms. Walsch –2 needed

301  Ms. Carlson–2 needed

306   Mr. G–2 needed

307 Mr. Z with Room Rep Rachel Gross

Please note, it is not a requirement for you to have a child in the classroom to volunteer for room rep.   Many room rep duties can be accomplished via e-mail or phone with flexible hours.   Most room reps have full time jobs and are rarely needed in the classroom during school hours.  This is mainly an event planning, wish list gathering, information disseminating position.   Early childhood teachers may need help with assembling projects, washing rugs, etc. which can be taken home and done at your convenience.
Let’s make sure all of our students are represented.   Please private e-mail Bonnie Kenaz-Mara at if you would be willing to take one of the upper grade classrooms or if you are considering it and want a detailed duties list.   If you’re volunteering, specify “any classroom” or include your preference if you have one.

We hope to have every classroom assigned 2 reps by the end of the week.
Thank you,

Bonnie Kenaz-Mara

Attending the CPS Board Meeting

Filed under: General and Misc — Jonathan Goldman at 11:21 am on Wednesday, August 26, 2009

At the special meeting on Monday, the LSC voted to communicate to CPS our concerns about the new policy limiting email and cell phone use by teachers. That will occur at the CPS board meeting this afternoon. Every board meeting has a public comment period, and the LSC would like to encourage anyone who is interested to also come and express their views to the Board.

Sign-up for the public comment starts at 2:00 pm, and the meeting begins at 4:00 pm. It will be at CPS headquarters at 125 S. Clark Street, on the 5th floor.

The LSC will be continuing to explore this issue and will keep our school community informed as it develops further.

Special LSC Meeting Monday August 24th at 7:30 am

Filed under: General and Misc — Jonathan Goldman at 4:18 pm on Friday, August 21, 2009

You may have heard by now about the new CPS policy regarding email and phone communications by teacher and staff. Mr. Neidlinger sent a letter home today in the backpacks explaining some of the ramifications.

The LSC will hold a special meeting on Monday at 7:30 am in Room 001 to discuss the implications of this policy and its impacts on our teachers and parents. We may consider taking some action such as asking CPS to rescind or modify the policy. There will also be an update on the TA staffing situation.

There is an excellent summary of the issue as well as numerous comments at http://www.catalyst-chicago.org/RUSSO/index.php/entry/2069/No_Social_Media_For_CPS_Teachers

If you are interested in reading the policy itself, it can be accessed at http://policy.cps.k12.il.us/documents/604.1.pdf

We are working to arrange a conference call hook up for the meeting for people who would like to participate but cannot attend in person.

Also, if you would like to share your thoughts or concerns with the LSC, please email your comments to .

Thank you,

Jonathan Goldman

Interested in yoga for EII students?

Filed under: General and Misc — cynthcabrera at 12:15 pm on Friday, August 21, 2009

Recently, information was posted regarding yoga for early childhood and EI students.  Christine is willing to look for a yoga instructor if at least 12 students from EII (4th, 5th 6th graders) are interested.  Here is some general information:  12 sessions, $96, once a week, hoping to start mid to late September.  This is a great opportunity for the older students to learn positive relaxation exercises to improve coping skills. If interested, please respond.  Thank you.
