Do you have a Robot fan in your family?  Great news!  The FIRST Midwest Regional Robotics Competition finals are this Saturday, 2/28, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at UIC Pavilion.  The Midwest Regional is FREE and open to the public!  The FIRST Midwest Regional Robotics Competition is an intense three-day competition showcasing robots developed and operated by dozens of high school teams from all over the workd.  The Midwest Regional’s goal is to show that science and engineering can be exciting and fun providing a spectator-friendly competition environment that has the feel of both a major sporting event and a rock concert, complete with special lighting, music, a large video wall and energetic announcers.  More info at http://www.midwestfirst.org/about.php   Parking is available for $7/day/vehicle at the parking structure east of the UIC Pavilion, 525 S. Racine.  Come out and cheer for your favorite robot teams!

All are welcome at the Drummond Local School Council Monthly Meeting tomorrow night at 6:00pm in Room 007.  Free childcare and refreshments will be provided.

Please join us for an after-school committee meeting tomorrow evening, 2/18 at 6:00 pm. The location of the meeting is the Starbucks at the corner of Hoyne and Armitage (2101 W. Armitage.)  We will discuss after-school options, including the Spanish language vendors who visited the school.

Drummond PTO presents 4 Chicago-themed rooms: Music, Architecture, Sports and History for an evening of reading and fun! Also browse the book exchange and enjoy pizza. The evening ends with a performance by Adventure Stage Chicago. Hope you can make it!

At its last meeting, the LSC voted to move its meeting from Thursday, 2/18/09 to Thursday, 2/26/09 to avoid a conflict with Family Reading Night. Hope you all have fun on February 18th and we hope to see you at our meeting on the 26th at 6:00pm.

Please join the Garden Committee for a meeting to discuss the final classroom garden design on Wednesday, Feb. 11th at 3:00pm in the downstairs lunchroom.  Snacks and child care will be provided.

Please join us in Room 007 tomorrow, February 6th, at 8:00am, to learn about adding after-school Spanish at Drummond with Language Stars. We will have coffee, muffins and a video for the kids. All are welcome!

As an addition to our wonderful in-school French program, the After School Committee is considering proposing an after-school Spanish class for our kids this Spring.  We have invited two vendors who have provided after-school language classes in over 30 schools in CPS- Language Stars and Spanish Horizons.  The classes could be offered for children ages 3-13 and would require the payment of a fee.

Both organizations have been invited to Drummond to answer your questions.

Language Stars will be available THIS FRIDAY Feb. 6th before school at 8:00am to answer questions about their program. Coffee and muffins will be provided by the LSC. Information is also available on the LSC website on the after-school page. http://www.drummondlsc.org/main/after-school-committee/
