What’s unique about your family? Still figuring it out? There’s still time to turn in your family’s contribution to the Diversity Committee’s family art project before Pasta Palooza. Just gather the family, get an 8″ x 8″ paper, and use words, pictures, photos, cutouts, whatever you like to represent what’s special about your family. Turn in your completed project to the office or your child’s teacher. All the projects will be displayed at Pasta Palooza on Friday to create a visual representation of the diversity of our Drummond community. Questions about the project or the Diversity Committee? Contact Marquese Martin-Hayes at 773.725.0898.
Due to a family emergency out of town, we will have to cancel tomorrow’s bread making class. (Read on …)
Dear Families,
We have had an ovewrwhelming response to our free evening at Pasta Palooza. I believe this speaks volumes of our PTO and our FOD and the tremendous work they have put forth to make this evening possible. Due to this response, we will be opening the doors at 5:30 to accomodate the crowd. Please come and enjoy this great evening along with the rest of the Drmmond community.
Sincerely,
Mark Neidlinger
Looking for something to do (or just some childcare) during Spring Break? Ukranian Village Children’s Center at 918 N. Damen is once again offering art classes timed to coincide with Drummond’s spring break. Classes will be held M-Th, March 17-20 from 10 to noon, and are priced at about $15 (very reasonable), with a sibling discount available. Space is still available but filling fast. Contact or 773-342-7415 to sign up. My daughters really enjoy UVCC; I highly recommend it! Hope to see some of you there…
Wednesday March 5, at 2:45 in the Art Room, is the kick-off meeting for Drummond’s Ultimate Frisbee Club, an after-school coed activity to introduce kids to an exciting sport, which is seeing phenonemal growth. Parents and/or students grades 3-8 and teachers are encouraged to attend this organizational meeting to learn more about the game of ultimate frisbee and the team forming at Drummond. The ultimate frisbee club will play after school on Wednesdays and may evolve to play other area elementary schools. In addition to being a lot of fun and a great workout, this self-refereed sport emphasizes good sportsmanship and individual responsibility through its “Spirit of the Game” ethic. Chicago’s local high school league is now approaching 40 teams. Come see what all the fuss is about. For those interested, here are some interesting sites/videos on ultimate:

The Drummond Book Club is meeting this Thursday, March 6th at 4:00 in the Library to discuss The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. If you’ve heard about the book from your student or even if you’ve read it yourself, you might want to check out this author interview. It’s a great way to learn about Kate DiCamillo in her own words- and it can help you get ready for Book Club! Check it out!
