LSC Candidate Forum

Filed under: General and Misc — Carly at 5:49 pm on Monday, March 31, 2008

Please plan to attend the Drummond LSC candidate forum on Tuesday, April 1 at 5 p.m. in room 103.  Candidates will each have up to five minutes to speak about their qualifications, experiences at Drummond, and/or reasons for wanting to be on the LSC.  Audience members are encouraged to ask questions.  This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the candidates before the election on April 17.

Please note a time change.

Dear Drummond Families,

Spring Break has arrived and I want to wish all of our students, parents, teachers and faculty members a happy, healthy and exciting couple of weeks away from our school. If you are traveling please be safe and come back with some great stories to share. If you are staying in our fair city, I hope you discover new places and faces and get to relax a bit. With any luck we’ll be looking at tulips and daffodils before long.

Enjoy your families and friends.

Sincerely,

Mr. Neidlinger

Community meeting regarding the garden

On April 2nd Drummond will host a public meeting to discuss our garden project and how we will be moving ahead. I have asked the Alderman, Scott Waguespack, the Public Buildings Commission and Chicago Department of Transportation to give an update and presentation to the school community and our surrounding neighbors regarding not only the park, but also parking and pick-up, drop-off routines. Please join us at 5pm in the gymnasium on the third floor.

LSC candidates forum

Please come join us on Tuesday, April 1st to hear from our LSC candidates. This public forum will give each candidate to introduce themselves and tell our school community what they will bring to the LSC if elected. I am delighted to see so many people on the ballot, we are fortunate to have so many folks wanting to get involved. If you are still interested in submitting your name then you are in luck – the date has recently been extended. You can still apply up until March 24th at 3pm. Please send your application directly to Jose Alvarez at 125 S. Clark, fifth floor 60603. Once school resumes we will update and inform everyone.

ISAT is over.

First and foremost, thank you, Ms. Wheatley for doing such a fine job coordinating this years’ ISAT. I know the work that went into this and appreciate every ounce of effort you made in seeing that our school met the daily challenges during this testing season.

This year we made a decided effort to keep our calm and move methodically through our testing. We believe that we were well prepared for these exams and wanted our students and teachers to feel relaxed and confident moving through this material. I want to thank our parents for supporting this effort by allowing us to have clear, quiet hallways, it does make a difference. I also want to applaud our teachers who work from day one to prepare our students for these exams. Lastly I want to congratulate all of our students who tested this year. Please know that all of us are behind you and wish you well on these exams.

Pasta Palooza

What a fantastic event! I congratulate and applaud the great collaborative effort that went into making our first ever Pasta Palooza such a delightful evening. This evening could not have happened without a few key players. Special thanks go out to Rick Shaughnessy and Elizabeth Flor scheimer for cooking up a storm in our own Drummond kitchen. Thank you also to our committee heads: Rich Sullivan – set up and break down crews, Megan Hinschliff – decoration and organization committee. I also wish to express my gratitude to Scott Florscheimer and the Park Grill for their kind donation of ingredients and to Jeff Kujan from Whitehouse Mortgage Co. for their five-hundred dollar underwriting of this event. It was through these two donations that we were able to feed well over 200 people for free! Next year we might even be able to dine outside if our new grounds are ready. Thank you one and all for your generous contributions and for attending this lovely event.

This spring will bring about some big changes. Next year we will hope to find all sorts of spring growth starting up, piercing the ground, waiting to blossom.

Enjoy the vacation.

Pasta Palooza - Thank you!!

Filed under: General and Misc — Monica at 4:22 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2008

On behalf of the PTO and Friends of Drummond, thank you to all of the parents, students, other family members, teachers, staff and administrators who celebrated last night at our first ever Drummond Pasta Palooza!

We were just blown away by the outpouring of support and enthusiasm for this event from all quarters of our Drummond community.  So many people came together to brainstorm, plan, recruit, shop, cut, chop, cook, carry, measure, schlep, clean, serve, eat, dance, and even sing.  Our volunteers logged a lot of miles up and down all those stairs!

While so many share in the credit for making this event a success, a special shout-out of gratitude to the following:  Executive Chefs Rick Shaughnessy and Elizabeth Floersheimer, who led our cooking efforts, Volunteer and Supplies Coordinator Megan Hinchsliff, and Producer Rich Sullivan, who, with the able assistance of Mike Kuzniar, Mark Kwiatkowski, Tony Parker, and Juan Miranda, led our day-of production team.

We also are very grateful to our major donor, Park Grill, and event sponsor, Whitehouse Mortgage. When you’re next down in Millennium Park, stop by the Park Grill for a delicious meal, and if you’re looking to finance or refinance a mortgage, be sure to call Drummond Alum, Alma Martinez, at Whitehouse.

Last but not least, thank you to the PP planning committee: Kelli Rick, Jessica Kwiatkowski, Mike Hannan, Jennifer Tengelsen, Jennifer James, Kyle Petersen, George Langford, Linda Szabo, and Mark Neidlinger.

We hope to see you all at a future Pasta Palooza, as well as other PTO and FOD events!

Laura Kuzniar, PTO Co-President

Monica Lasky, FOD President

Pastapalooza — Still Looking for a Couple of Items…

Filed under: General and Misc — Angelo at 9:57 am on Friday, March 7, 2008

Due to the cancellation of the breadmaking session, we could use for a few folks to contribute some bread to tonight’s event. We could also use some water. If you’re going to the store and would like to contribute an extra loaf or a couple of bottles of water, please feel free! All is appreciated.
