A few things about the first week of school…

Filed under: General and Misc — laura at 8:17 am on Friday, July 27, 2007

For most Drummond students, school starts on Mon, Aug 6th and PTO is busy getting several events going for all our families.  Please take note of the following items-

Uniform Trade Up- Have you found that your student outgrew a uniform or two over the summer?  Please bring the outgrown school uniforms to the main office and get credit for a trade to a larger size.  PTO will arrange for the trade up to happen starting the afternoon of Monday, Aug 13th.  Look for signs about exactly where this will take place.

Parent Coffee, right after drop off on Monday, Aug 13th- On the 13th, all Drummond students will be back in the classroom, so PTO is arranging a coffee right after drop-off for all parents.  Look for signs, but it will be in the new multi-purpose room (the old nap room) in the basement at 9:15.

Buy an extra ream of paper- While doing you school supply shopping, please buy an extra ream of paper for the school.  As you know, the school’s budget for office supplies has decreased dramatically over the years, leaving a large deficit.  Every ream of paper counts!  Please consider donating the paper to the school by simply leaving it outside the main office in a box designated for donated school supplies!

We are looking forward to a wonderful school year!  Thank you for being a part of it!

LSC Selects New Principal: Mark Neidlinger!

Filed under: General and Misc — Sabrina Craig at 10:54 pm on Monday, July 23, 2007

The LSC voted late tonight to extend a four-year Principal contract to our current Montessori Director Mark Neidlinger. Congratulations Mr. Neidlinger! His commitment to the students and families of Drummond, his track record of success in building a thriving program, and his passion for Montessori education are among the outstanding qualities he brings to his new position. He has proven ability to meet the unique needs of our Montessori program within CPS, and to shine a spotlight on our school-wide successes. As a former upper-grades teacher with early childhood Montessori experience, he is well-positioned to respond to the needs of our students and staff at every level. The LSC is excited about working with Mr. Neidlinger to build upon Drummond’s successes and enrich the learning experiences of all our kids, parents and staff!

Please note that there are a few more important steps in the process before Mr. Neidlinger’s contract is finalized, including Board approval, negotiation of contract addenda, and completion of all requirements. The LSC will work closely with Mr. Neidlinger to ensure that all the steps are completed as soon as possible and that the transition of our school administration goes smoothly.

The LSC wishes to thank all the parents, teachers, students, community members and advisors who generously contributed their insights, questions, suggestions and opinions to the principal selection process. We carefully weighed every piece of information shared with us. We are grateful for your candor and your support throughout the process. As always, if you have any questions, concerns or ideas about this process, contact any LSC member.

LSC Vote on New Principal, Monday 7/23 at 5pm

Filed under: General and Misc — Sabrina Craig at 5:47 pm on Friday, July 20, 2007

It’s time! The LSC will be deliberating and making a decision about Drummond’s new principal this Monday, July 23 beginning at 5pm in the school library. Please note that the deliberations will be closed, but the final vote will be public (sometime after 6pm). The results will be publicized via email that night after the meeting.
Thanks to everyone who came out for the Principal Candidates Forum! Over 70 members of the Drummond community were there to get to know the finalists – the question-asking lasted for nearly 3 hours. The candidates expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome and in-depth questioning they’ve received from Drummond. We are clearly a community who cares deeply about school leadership and our children’s education, and all three candidates heard that loud and clear.

AGENDA 7/23/07, 5pm
- Elect temporary Chair and Secretary until August 8

- Motion to go into closed session for Principal Selection and contract addenda discussions

- Principal Selection and contract addenda discussion (closed session)

- Vote on new Principal

Let’s meet up for dinner and fun!

Filed under: General and Misc — laura at 11:26 am on Tuesday, July 17, 2007
It’s Drummond Time!
If you’re new to Drummond and want to meet some other parents or if you just want to touch bases with some friends over the summer, head on over to Chief O’Neill’s Pub — 3471 N. Elston — on Wednesday, July 25 between 5:30 pm and 8 pm or so. Bring the kids (and something for the kids to do! — cards, games, whatnot) and relax in the shade of the beer garden. What if it’s raining? We’ll head inside. Order dinner, have a drink, let the kids play. No reservations required — just show up. Several PTO reps will be on-hand to say “Hi!” There’s no agenda — just time to hang out.
Hope to see you there!

Staggered Start for 3-6 year old classes in August

Filed under: General and Misc — nicole at 12:20 pm on Tuesday, July 10, 2007

Dear Parents,

I have just learned that the Board of Education has approved our request for this years staggered start dates. This has proven successful in previous years and we are confident that it will do so again. Mrs. Bago and I have called each of our families to notify you, but if we were not able to connect directly with you please read below for your child’s official start date:

3 year olds begin Monday, August 6th5 year olds will begin Thursday, August 9th

4 year olds will start on Monday, August 13th

This will allow our 3’s a few full days to get acclimated before the 5’s come in in their leadership role with the 4’s arriving the following Monday to create the full classroom environment. Please keep in mind that all of these are full days starting at 9am and ending at 2:45. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Sincerely,

Mark Neidlinger,

Director
