A few folks have forwarded some web links that you might find helpful-

Ms. Wheatley passed on a  link to summer activities that promote literacy and just look like a lot of fun.

http://www.readwritethink.org/beyondtheclassroom/summer

Cynthia Cabrera forwarded a link to help us keep our kids safe this summer.

Don’t mean to cause grief during the summer, but I think this is very important.  During the summer we think about relaxing and may become careless…kids are outside riding their bikes, attending summer camp, partaking in activities at the park, etc.  Please keep in mind those individuals that are unassuming may be sexual perpetrators.  I can guarantee there are some living in your neighborhood.

In order to remain cautious, you can locate some of these individuals by connecting to this website:
                  http://www.isp.state.il.us/sor/
On the left hand side enter your zipcode or the desired zipcode and “cook” under county and then click on FIND.  You should see a list of individuals along with their place of residence.  If you click on DETAIL a picture of the individual will also appear.

Special LSC Meeting, Weds 6/20 at 5pm

Filed under: General and Misc — Sabrina Craig at 9:22 am on Tuesday, June 19, 2007

All are welcome at this LSC meeting focusing on Principal Selection. The goal of this meeting is to approve final interview questions (drawn from those submitted by our community), finalize candidate interview plans, and select the candidates to interview from the 50 applications submitted.

Due to the need for discretion in discussing principal candidates and the hiring process, portions of this meeting will be closed. All votes, however, will be in open session as required by law.

Looking forward to seeing you there,

Sabrina

PTO HAS RECEIVED TAX EXEMPT STATUS FROM THE IRS!!!

Filed under: General and Misc — laura at 8:20 pm on Thursday, June 14, 2007

Great News!  After an exhausting, lengthy process, Rachel Gross has successfully submitted our bid for tax exempt status with the IRS on the FIRST try!  This is huge for PTO because it means that we no longer have to pay tax on things we purchase for our events, for the school, etc.  It also means that money donated to PTO or to Drummond School through PTO is TAX DEDUCTIBLE!

As stated in PTO Bylaws:  ”Money that is given to the PTO with the donor’s expressed intention that such donation be a direct donation to the School (and not as a past of a PTO fundraiser or donation to the PTO) shall be turned over to the School within twenty one (21) days.

Thank you, Rachel, for your tireless efforts on behalf of PTO!  This really is a huge step for our organization.

Babysitting Coop

Filed under: General and Misc — Monica at 6:50 pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2007

Looking to expand your pool of available babysitters while saving on costs?  Having trouble finding a sitter for all those half-days and days off?  Consider joining the North Side Babysitting Cooperative (originally the Northside Parents Network Coop).  About 20-25 families from across the North Side (from River West to Rogers Park) participate in the Coop.  This is also a nice way to meet other families in the City.  If you are interested in joining, please let me know.  Our next meeting is Sunday, July 8.  (Note: this is NOT a Drummond/PTO/FOD/LSC sponsored group.)
