Volunteers needes for Teacher Appreciation Project

Filed under: General and Misc — Carly at 12:48 pm on Friday, March 23, 2007

Okay, it’s still top secret but here is a more detailed description than what I posted yesterday.  From Alexandra Hischen-Dobrowski:

The PTO has been planning a teachers’s appreciation project that will be executed the first week of spring break. We are still looking for people who would like to get involved and who have wood working, painting or sewing skills. Please drop Alexandra (Luca’s mother, Rm. 104) a mail  at  with your contact info (phone # & email) if you are able to help. (For the people who already offered their help verbally, please do the same, so that we can create a contact list).

Filed under: General and Misc — lisa wright at 12:47 pm on Friday, March 23, 2007

I’m posting this for my husband, Brian, Ellery Warling’s dad…

FREE PORTRAIT & SIBLING SITTINGS from
PICTURE DAY by WARLING STUDIOS

• Did you miss Picture Day this year?

• Wish for a beautiful sibling portrait of your children?

On Saturday, April 14th, Picture Day is hosting FREE PORTRAIT SITTINGS for children at our studio.
We receive many requests from parents during our picture day season to photograph their children who attend different schools and/or desire a sibling portrait. To meet these requests, we invite you to bring your children to our studio on April 14th to be photographed in our distinctive Picture Day style. We can photograph each of the children individually and all of them together. All ages of children are welcome (sorry, no adults will be photographed). Feel free to invite other families you know who may be interested in this exclusive opportunity to schedule an appointment.

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Contact Shay by email: or phone: 312-733-5646 to schedule a time.
2. On April 14th show up at 350 N. Ogden Suite 300, a few minutes before your scheduled time to allow for check-in.
3. Two weeks later you will receive your color and black and white proofs along with an order form in the mail. If you wish to place an order, just mail or fax in the order.

PTO Spring Plant Sale will be in May!

Filed under: General and Misc — laura at 9:01 am on Friday, March 23, 2007

I noticed in a few communications this week that the PTO Plant Sale was included in April’s schedule.  This was an error.  Shortly after we return from Spring Break, you can expect to see flyers and order forms for all sorts of great plants that will be available the second week of May.  Please excuse the error, but start getting excited about your spring planting!

Volunteers needed over Spring Break

Filed under: General and Misc — Carly at 9:32 am on Wednesday, March 21, 2007

Volunteers are needed to help out with a very special, top-secret project during break.  This project may include painting, assembling, some lifting, and will definitely be something you will be glad to be a part of.  Basic familiarity with tools might be a plus but is certainly not required.  The days will depend on the volunteers’ availability so please let us know if you’re interested.  For more details that aren’t so vague or to volunteer, please contact Alexandra Hischen-Dombroski at  or leave a comment below.

A Message From Principal Collins

Filed under: General and Misc — laura at 9:21 am on Wednesday, March 21, 2007
Dear LSC members, administrators, teachers and FOD members:

I am asking that you post the following memo in the PTO and BCO blogs so that everyone receives this communication.

It has come to my attention that in my quest to continue to bring the best academic programs to Drummond via the newly-created Exploratory Committee (composed of all elected LSC members  and three addition teachers as approved by LSC in a previous meeting), there are some misunderstandings that are flowing out there which I want to address, clarify and with your help, stop from happening:

1)  As presented to the Exploratory Committee, I wanted to create this group to assist me in a collaborative manner, to explore, research and visit CPS schools that currently have successful innovative programs so that we can be well-informed about what options are available to us to enrich our school, and in particular our upper grades, in the event that the Montessori Program is only funded up to 6th grade as originally granted by the US Federal Grant 2003-2007.

2)  I have NOT made any decisions nor would I do this without the feedback from the Exploratory Committee and the LSC.

3)  I have no intention to make a decision that would jeopardize the instructional programs I have instituted at Drummond over the last 12 years.  That is not who I am and I take issue with anyone who questions my integrity which I have demonstrated to you in all I do.

4) I welcome your suggestions and your ideas, as I have done during my tenure as principal of Drummond School, and I will keep you abreast of the progress the Exploratory Committee makes as we visit schools in April.  These reports will be made at the Local School Council level during our monthly meetings.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to email me and I will gladly respond.

Respectfully,

Isabel M. Collins
