A Positive Message

Filed under: General and Misc — Angelo at 10:03 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2007

I didn’t get a chance to post this before the holiday break, but I wanted to thank Mrs. Collins for her eloquent and positive principal’s message. I thought it was worthy reprinting this positive message here. Happy New Year to All,

Angelo

Communication and Teamwork

“Effective communication is tough! Teamwork is even tougher!  Collaboration is the hardest.”  I heard a colleague say this in a meeting a couple of weeks ago and as he said this, I laughed and said to myself “not at Drummond, we have clear lines of communication . . . “

Well, even at Drummond we run into situations where communication may need some tweaking.  Historically (all I can recollect are the last twelve years) we have had ample opportunities to share and discuss our ideas whether it is in a Local School Council meeting, a PTO meeting, a “Friends of Drummond”, “NCLB” meetings, informal meetings, faculty meetings, cycle meetings, backyard talks, or even in lounge room conversations . .. you get the idea right?

The bottom line is that everyone is welcome to express their opinions as we are in a free country.  I, for one, feel blessed to be in a free country as I know how it feels to be robbed of one’s freedom of speech.

I applaud all of you for exercising this “inalienable right” and I exhort you to continue to do this so that we can continue to grow.  Without your input and support we could not have attained the level of education we are able to provide our students.

You are empowered to help us plan for our school, you are empowered to dream about our future and you are empowered to share your suggestions within cycle teams, parent committees, subcommittees, small groups, at local restaurants and yes, even in the back lot as you walk your child to/from school.

Please share your concerns, ideas and suggestions with us and bring them to the Local School Council meetings so that all of you have an opportunity to be heard and listen to others who may have a different perspective.  I along with our dedicated members of the LSC represent parents, teachers, community and administrators whose only priority is the academic improvement of our students.

I welcome all agendas from meetings and discussions.  Your input as parents, students, teachers, community members and administrators have been vital to the growth of our school!

Let’s continue to work collaboratively!

Yours truly,

Isabel Mesa Collins

Principal
