Join Parent Field Trip to Rockford Montessori School

Filed under: General and Misc — Sabrina Craig at 3:02 pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2007

This Thursday, parents from Drummond, Suder, Clissold and Oscar Mayer schools are traveling together to Rockford to visit Maria Montessori School (http://webs.rps205.com/schools/montessori/home.html). This inspiring public Montessori elementary school was founded over a decade ago, and has experienced many of the triumphs and obstacles that we’re seeing today. We’ll meet teachers, administrators and parents, tour the school, observe the classes in session, and have ample opportunity to ask questions. We’ll leave on a bus from Drummond at 8AM on Thursday and return by 2:30PM. There are just a few seats left, so if you can join us, RSVP now! Send an email to Sabrina at . This trip is the first step towards building a network of public Montessori school families in Chicago. If you can’t make the trip but would like to help build the public Montessori network, please contact Sabrina or Jennifer James ().

This sounds like a wonderful trip! Thank you for organizing it for Drummond parents. If I could make a suggestion, the next time there is an event like this, more advanced notice would be useful. I think having a diverse representation of families from Drummond is a good goal to have, so sending out flyers to all Drummond parents in English and Spanish would be the way to really reach everyone. I know that’s not possible in every situation, but its important for everyone to feel included. Is there any way to post a wrap up (pictures, report) so those that can’t go can still learn from the trip?

It sounds really interesting. I wish I had known about it sooner so I could have gotten time off of work. I’d be interested to know if more people who work outside the home feel the same way. In the future, I think it would be great if we could be informed of these events more than a day and a half in advance. Also, is this the same Montessori network that Mr. Neidlinger is working on, or is this something different?
